Championing a smarter, cleaner grid through V2G Insight
Expert insights on Vehicle-to-Grid innovation, every two weeks.
Hi, I’m Steve Letendre, and I’ve spent more than two decades at the intersection of energy policy, economics, and innovation—driven by a passion for building a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
My work in vehicle-to-grid (V2G) began when the concept was still a twinkle in the eye of energy researchers. In fact, I co-authored one of the very first academic papers proposing the idea that electric vehicles could be a power source for electric utilities. That article—”Electric Vehicles as a New Power Source for Electric Utilities”—was published back in 1997 in the journal Transportation Research. It helped set the stage for what has since become a global movement.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working with the two leading V2G companies in the U.S.—Nuvve and Fermata Energy—where I led regulatory strategy and engagement. At both organizations, I worked to unlock market opportunities for bidirectional EVs by shaping policy, participating in rulemaking, and building coalitions to advance grid-integrated transportation. I also teach graduate courses in energy regulation and law at Vermont Law School, and I’ve authored over 60 technical publications on clean energy topics.
I hold a PhD in energy economics and policy from the University of Delaware, where my research focused on the valuation and integration of distributed energy resources into utility planning frameworks. That academic foundation continues to inform my work at the intersection of technology, policy, and markets.
But my commitment to V2G isn’t just professional—it’s personal. I live in a solar-powered, energy-efficient home in rural Vermont with my wife, Kathy. We heat and power our home with renewable energy, and I’ve even retrofitted our 2017 Chevy Volt with an inverter so that, in a power outage, we can plug in appliances and power them directly from the car’s battery. It’s a DIY version of vehicle-to-home (V2H), and a small way I try to live the V2X vision I’ve spent my career advancing.
We have one daughter who now lives in Washington, D.C., working in the field of international development. When I’m not thinking about grid modernization, you might find me mountain biking the local trails—or snowboarding at one of Vermont’s premier ski areas when the snow is good.
Thanks for stopping by—I’m always happy to connect with others who share a vision for a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient energy future.

The Mission

V2G News exists to inform, inspire, and accelerate the adoption of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology—because we believe it is a necessary solution for building a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
V2G Insights
Each issue begins with a deep dive. This could be a commentary on a pressing V2G policy issue, a conversation with an industry leader, or original analysis that unpacks the meaning behind a major market or regulatory development. This is where we take time to explore what matters most—and why.
V2G Innovations
The final section features coverage and analysis of the latest academic research and industry reports. Whether it’s a peer-reviewed study on bidirectional charging economics or a new market outlook from a national lab or consultancy, we highlight findings that advance the knowledge base of V2G.
V2G Finds
The top V2G-related stories from the past two weeks, handpicked and summarized for your quick review. From pilot project launches and new regulations to utility filings and strategic partnerships, we cover the key news you shouldn’t miss—always with context to help you connect the dots.
At V2G News, we’re not just reporting on a technology—we’re championing a transformation.
V2G turns electric vehicles into active energy assets, unlocking a flexible, decentralized energy system powered by clean, renewable sources. From grid stability and resilience to decarbonization and equity, the benefits of V2G are too important to ignore—and too complex to track casually.
We believe that good information drives good decisions, and our goal is to empower our readers with trusted insights, expert analysis, and forward-thinking commentary. Whether you’re in the early stages of learning about V2G or deeply embedded in this work, V2G News is your go-to source for staying informed and inspired.
